Blu-ray… First To Burn (in a good way)

Primera To Ship First Blu-ray Publisher

Primera Blue Ray DuplicatorPrimera Technology, Inc., a world leader in CD/DVD duplication equipment just recently released information about its latest venture in optical media recording, Blu-ray. I know I have been going on and on about Blu-ray technology for some time so I’m glad to announce it is finally on its way.

Primera has named its newest device the XR-Blu which is fitting since it appears they have configured their existing Bravo XR chassis and robotics to incorporate Pioneer’s brand new BDR-101A Blu-ray Disc/DVD recorder. The system will be backwards compatible and users will still be able to use the unit for DVD duplication as well. The system will use Sonic Solutions Blu-ray enabled recording software for Blu-ray duplication.

For those of you that are not familiar with Blu-ray technology a Blu-ray disc has much higher capacity than that of a DVD. A standard Blu-ray disc can hold up to 25GB of data single layer and 50GB of data dual layer. The first version of the XR-Blu will only be able to copy data on single layer discs, but according to Primera an upgrade should be made available shortly after launch to copy dual layer discs as well.

By using the existing XR chassis the XR-Blu allows for convenient placement since all supplies can be accessed from the front of the unit. This allows the unit to be stacked on top of each other or mounted on a rack saving valuable counter space. The optional rack mount kit will be sold separately. The XR robotics will allow for automated duplication and will also borrow from Primeras print technology for on disc printing, making the unit capable of complete hands free publishing.

Blu-ray is finally here and I can’t wait to see the technology put to good use. For Primera this is one more example of how a cutting edge company stays out in front. Primera has always introduced quality user-friendly equipment and I’m sure when Blu-ray technology becomes popular the XR-Blu will become a sought after machine.

Stay tuned for more information about Primera’s XR-Blu. The unit is expected to start shipping this April (2006) so check back soon to see if it has arrived.
