DYMO® DiscPainter™

Inkjet DVD/CD printer from DYMO® puts
a whole new spin on printing

DYMO® DiscPainter™ Inkjet CD/DVD Printer
While the Tech Guy's experience is primarily with computers, he can certainly appreciate the beauty in fine art.  Modern masters of the palette such as Monet, Picasso, CM Coolidge, and DYMO® do wonders for the imagination.  Okay, it might be a stretch to call the DYMO® DiscPainter™ a modern master, but the new Inkjet disc printer certainly lives up to its name.

Disc painting does not really involve a brush or a canvas - it's just another way of saying disc printing.  You also shouldn't let the term "inkjet printer" fool you, because the DYMO® DiscPainters™ unlike any other disc printer out there.  The best way to understand what's so different about it is to see one in action.  Rather than a print head that moves over a disc, you have a disc that rotates beneath a print head.  Sounds simple enough, yet this is the first one I've seen that costs less than my house. You just cannot believe that a perfect print could happen while the disc is spinning, but it works every time.  It's a stroke of genius!

Out of the box, setting up the thing is a breeze.  Plug in the power cable, install the software, (a delightfully simple process) and attach the USB cable to your PC or MAC.  The included Discus software lets you design and print text and graphic labels for your CDs and DVDs on the double.  For convenience, there are a lot of disc templates and backgrounds included to help you get started.  Pop in an ink cartridge and a printable disc, and you're ready to rock-n-roll.

As the disc begins to spin up, a progress bar pops up on the screen indicating what percentage of your disc is printed.  You can also watch through the window and see the magic for yourself.  A small band of color appears near the inside of the disc.  As it keeps spinning, the band grows and grows until it touches the outside edge of the disc.  The whole process is nearly silent.  It's been only a minute or two since printing started, and everything is finished.  Amazing!

Upon inspection, the print looks perfect.  No banding or streaking is evident.  This fact is especially impressive when you consider that “the disc is spinning.” The precision it takes to accurately place ink droplets on a spinning arc and have the results look good is the impressive part.  The colors are bright and rich, and look exceptionally good when printed on waterproof Smudge Guard media.  DYMO® estimates that you can print 100 discs per cartridge using the Normal quality setting.

This portable gadget is great for production on the go, thanks to its small size and 2.6lb weight.  Use it in the studio, the tour bus, or the boardroom.  For quick and high-quality prints on CD and DVD inkjet printable media, the DYMO® DiscPainter™ is the way to go.  In the Tech Guy's eyes, it's truly a work of art and engineering.
