August 27, 2007 – US Digital Media has announced that have added HD DVD recordable media from Verbatim to their product line. The addition of HD DVD-R media will fill the increasing demand for recordable high capacity discs. High definition video and consumers’ need to record and store their HD content is the driving force behind two competing formats; Blu-ray and HD DVD.
US Digital Media will offer the new HD DVD Recordable discs along with their existing line of Blu-ray Disc Recordables. The two rivals are currently in a format war reminiscent of Beta vs. VHS battle in the early 1980s. The main difference between HD DVD and Blu-ray lies in the data capacity of each disc. HD DVD-R discs store up to 15 GB per layer and Blu-ray Discs store up to 25 GB per layer. HD DVD-R media is currently available in 15GB single layer discs and Blu-ray Disc media is available in both 25GB single layer and 50GB dual layer discs. The format war will likely continue for some time and US Digital Media will offer both formats on its retail website CDROM2GO.COM
